HCDH About Us
Research at the HCDH focuses on digital and computational methods and their further development in the humanities.
Since the HCDH was founded in 2022, its main areas of focus have been digital linguistics, digital heritage, and computational humanities (AI/machine learning). The most important research partner institutions are the Departments of Computational Linguistics and Linguistics, the Heidelberg Center for Cultural Heritage (HCCH), and the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR). The HCDH works closely with the university’s service units in the areas of data collection and storage, data curation, and tool development (Research Data Unit, University Library, Scientific Software Center, University Computing Center). Several research groups are based at the HCDH. Additional collaborations exist with the Heidelberg School of Education, the Marsiliuskolleg, the Heidelberg University of Education, and the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences. The HCDH coordinates teaching and continuing education through the Certificate for Advanced Studies in Digital Humanities. Many outreach activities focus on digital and AI literacy.
